Women Helping Women (WHW) Weekly Support Group

Women Helping Women is an ongoing weekly support group that is facilitated by a certified domestic violence advocate and is open to all victims and survivors of domestic violence. The Women Helping Women groups are dedicated to providing victims and survivors the opportunity to discuss, process, and gain peer support about the effects domestic violence has had on their lives. These groups provide a range of educational information on the topics of building self-esteem and domestic violence.

Duration of program: Ongoing - Weekly for approximately 1 to 1.50 hours.

Understanding Power & Control

This program is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to enhance their ability to identify forms of abuse, dynamics of P & C, tactics of P & C, elements of Equality, and behaviors of a Healthy Relationship.

This program is provided by trained volunteers and staff.

Duration of program: Nine Weeks for 1 to 1.5 hours.

D.V.E.C. (Domestic Violence Effects on Children)

The D.V.E.C. program provides adults and parents information on the dynamics and effects of domestic violence on the lives of children.This program is designed to offer parents non-judgmental information on a range of topics about domestic violence and how it has an adverse influence on the lives of children.

The D.V.E.C. program has an interactive-lecture structure. It is designed to offer parents skills and strategies for dealing with the special challenges they face.

The curriculum consists of instructor lecture, video, and handouts tailored to meet the needs of parents. This program is provided by trained staff and volunteers.

Duration of program: Seven weeks for 1.25 hours-per week.

AM Sunshine

This group meets 5 mornings per-week outside (weather permitting) and offers participants the opportunity to discuss and process how domestic violence has affected their lives and the lives of their dependents.

This program is provided by a certified domestic violence advocate and is available to all current and former shelter residents as well as outreach participants.

Duration of program: 5 morning’s per-week for 1 hour.

Parent & Child Interactive

The parent–child interactive program attempts to promote healthy parent-child relationships through a variety of fun and creative educational activities.

This program is provided by trained staff and volunteers.

Duration of program: Weekly for 1 hour.

Family Night

Family night is committed to encouraging positive healthy parent-child relationships through a variety of enjoyable social activities such as movie & popcorn night, ice cream social night, and other fun events. This program is offered to all current and former shelter residents as well as outreach participants.

Duration of program: 4th Sunday of each month for 2 to 2.5 hours.
